A tree of life bleeds
its sap an elixir of eternity
in Dacian tales
for each person a tree and a star
when they die their star falls
and their tree is uprooted and placed at the head of their grave
the deceased beseeches the tree to bow down its branches
as a bridge so they may cross the sea
that divides world from world
transmitting between realms
its roots draw up the stories the ground has absorbed
told by the voices in its susurrating leaves
its branches scan the atmosphere
for the right frequency of wind on which to broadcast them
